This ornate B&B in a 19th-century house sits among secluded gardens by a Lake Windermere marina. It’s 16 minutes’ walk south of Bowness village and 1.3 miles from Windermere Golf Club.

The 7 elegant Victorian-style rooms are decorated with antiques and have free WiFi, satellite TV with DVD players, refreshment trays and modern en suite bathrooms. Some have wood-panelled 4-poster beds, decorative fireplaces and Juliet balconies.

Local produce is used in the free cooked breakfast with vegetarian and gluten-free options.
