Lake Windermere ends around one mile short of Ambleside at Waterhead, and can come as a shock to boat passengers expecting to be in the town. But don’t worry! There is an Electric Bus that take you into the centre of Ambleside.

It is well worth the trip. The bus stops next to the world famous; Ambleside Sheepskins. If you decide to pop in to Ambleside Sheepskins you might be lucky and bump into the odd celebrity shopping.

Anything Sheepskin can be found in their 2 high street shops, boasting the best selection of sheepskin slippers, sheepskin rugs, cowhide rugs, reindeer skins in the UK.

As well as the Local Herdwick Sheepskin rugs. They also offer to post your goods if you can not carry them back home with you.

If you walk a further 300 yards up the road you will come across the best deli in the village, Stockghyll Fine Foods. They offer takeaway pies, sandwiches & sweets – highly recommended!

For walking and outdoor gear visit Cunninghams around the corner. Cunningham’s was established in 1971 by Stewart Cunningham, an Ambleside lad. Cunningham’s now has six stores across England, Scotland and Wales.
